As a GenX person, this gives me hope, the conversation around screens, life and what will eventually be noted as addiction. I have a millienial daughter who is addicted to social media. It is a weird thing to say, or bring up but it is ruining her life. I am an alcoholic, addiction runs deep in our gene pool. So the idea social media could replace the obliteration of self other toxic chemicals have been known to do? It is good to read young people are seeing the correlation between wasted youth and screens, and taking action against their own destruction.

Thanks for sharing, Lisa. I agree--it's good to see some of these changes. I think in the not-so-distant future there will be social taboos around excessive screen time. Dr. Anne Lembke wrote a great book called Dopamine Nation which addresses some of the ways that social media impacts the brain. Like you said, it's not so different from other addictions. You may find it interesting. Wishing you well xo
